Biography

Tina Uys has been a Professor of Sociology at the University of Johannesburg since 1995 and was the head of the department for 15 years. She was employed at the Department of Sociology at the University of South Africa from 1980-1994. She is a past President of the Clinical Sociology and Social Psychology divisions of the International Sociological Association and the South African Sociological Association (SASA), and a former Vice-President (National Associations) of the ISA. In 2013 she was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at George Washington University in Washington, DC and at the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 2017 she was a Visiting Professor at Univerzita Palackého v Olomouci in the Czech Republic. She is a Certified Clinical Sociologist (CCS). Her latest publication is Whistleblowing and the Sociological Imagination (2022) with Palgrave Macmillan. This book received the Outstanding Scholarly Book Award in Clinical Sociology 2023 presented by the Research Committee 46 International Sociological Association. She specialises in clinical sociology and has published widely on whistleblowing in South Africa.
