Faculty member of the Institute of Public Goods and Policies (Instituto de Políticas y Bienes Públicos) within the CSIC Centre of Human and Social Sciences in Madrid. Honorary Fellow, School of Social Sciences, University of Edinburgh; Invited postgraduate professor at the Research University Institute Ortega y Gasset-Madrid, the International and Ibero-American Foundation of Administration and Public Policy-Madrid, and the Centre of Political and Constitutional Studies-Madrid (International University Menendez Pelayo); Jean Monnet Senior Research Fellow, European University Institute (Florence) (1998-99); Visiting scholar at universities of Denver (1985), Edinburgh (1986-88), Colorado (1994-95), Rome-La Sapienza (2002-2004), and CNR-IRPPS (2012-13). Two long-standing fields of research: (a) Public social policy and welfare state; and (b) Territorial politics (multi-level governance and Europeanisation). Both have been carried out from a comparative perspective. Principal investigator of 15 out of 25 research projects awarded competitively by Spanish and European institutions. (Co) author and (co) editor of 24 books, and over 120 refereed articles and chapters in collective books.
