Professor Anthony Burke is Associate Dean of International and Engagement for the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building at the University of Technology Sydney where he served as the Head of the School of Architecture at UTS from 2010-2017. A graduate of the Masters of Science in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University (MS AAD, 2000) and a Bachelor of Architecture from UNSW (B.Arch, Hons 1, 1996), Anthony is an international curator, writer, designer and regular commentator on issues of technology and its intersection with architecture and urban design, and a director of the architectural practice Offshore Studio.
Anthony is a member of the Australian Institute of Architects, is on the selection committee for the Architecture Foundation’s Droga Residency program and chaired the Board of the Australian Design Centre from 2013-2016. In 2012 Anthony was the curator for the Australian Pavilion at the 2012 Venice Architecture Biennale with Gerard Reinmuth. In 2013 he was invited by the Danish Ministry of Culture to curate the Architecture symposium to mark the 40th Anniversary of the Opera House, and the reciprocal event “Public City” in Copenhagen in 2014. He developed and chairs the annual speculative design competition Open Agenda for ANZ recent graduates of architecture, which is now in its 6th year.
Anthony was an Assistant Professor in Architecture at the University of California, Berkeley (2002-2007) before returning to Australia where he directed the Master of Advanced Architecture degree at UTS (2007-2009) before being appointed Head of School in 2010.
