Stewart Thomas Cole (2016-01-08)


Professor Cole studied microbiology in the UK at the University of Wales prior to earning his Doctor of Philosophy in molecular genetics from the University of Sheffield in 1979. Subsequently, he embarked on a career as a research scientist at the University of Umeå (Sweden) and the Max-Planck-Institut in Tübingen (Germany). In 1983 he joined the Institut Pasteur (Paris, France), where he was in turn the head of the bacterial molecular genetics unit, a professor, and finally, the Institute's Scientific Director. In 2007, Prof. Cole moved to the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) where he leads a world-class research unit dedicated to TB drug discovery, and serves as the Director of the Global Health Institute.
