I have almost 30 years’ experience working in molecular biology. Currently, I am a volunteer researcher at CIB National Laboratory, a cancer biology-oriented academic Center, within Trieste’s Area Science Park.
The main focus of my research is the role played by the calpain/calpastatin system and macroautophagy in cellular self-defense from stress. Over the last 15 years I have directed and supervised 5 graduate students, each of them produced at least one paper as a first author during the 3-years graduate program. I coauthored 29 publications, among which 14 as first author, and 9 as corresponding author.
In January 2014, I obtained the Italian scientific qualification for Academic Staff in Molecular Biology and in Applied Biology. Over the last 15 years, I have been teaching Biology to undergraduate students enrolled in Sanitary Studies. Currently, I am making a living as a teacher, and I really enjoy my new job, even if my heart still beats for science.
