Following a degree in English Literature at Bristol University, I trained as a nurse in Cardiff (shortened course for graduates). After living in Luxembourg for a while I trained as a midwife and practiced in London and Bristol, before working at Bristol University as a researcher. I then combined working as a health visitor in Bristol with further research and studying for an MSc (Child Welfare) and a PhD at the School for Policy Studies, University of Bristol. Subsequent posts have been as a public health manager and in 2010 I moved to the University of the West of England as senior lecturer and researcher. In January 2015 I became an associate professor at the University of Swansea. I am a fellow of the Institute of Health Visiting.
