João Paulo Capela (Capela J.P.), has obtained a PhD in Toxicology in 2007, at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto, following a degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences obtained in 2002.
Capela JP has published 26 full-length articles in international journals, gathering a total of 768 citations for a h-index of 14 (Scopus index), 2 international book chapters, several conference abstracts in international journals, and 3 book chapters in national publications. His main interest lays in the neurotoxicity of amphetamines and other psychostimulants. Capela JP is the principal supervisor of 1 PhD student, and supervised 3 Masters in Clinical and Analytical Toxicology, and the co-supervisor of a PhD granted by FCT (SFRH/BD/64939/2009). Moreover, supervised 3 students whose grants were provided by an FCT funded project.
Capela JP was the principal investigator of an FCT funded project (PTDC/SAU-FCF/102958/2008): “IMPLICATIONS OF AMPHETAMINE PSYCHOSTIMULANTS ABUSE IN BRAIN AGING”. Moreover, he is/was a team member in other projects: 3 granted FCT projects, PTDC/DTP-FTO/1489/2014, EXPL/DTP-FTO/0290/2012 and PTDC/SAU OSM/101437/2008), as well as 1 granted by “Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian" (FCG 10/04). He was invited guest editor of the “International Journal of Neuropsychopharmacology” and reviewed a grant submitted to the Neurological Foundation of New Zealand.
JPC is an Assistant Professor, for almost a decade, of Pharmacology and Toxicology, in the Master degrees of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Medical Dentistry where supervises every year several Master thesis. Moreover, has participated in 3 academic PhD juries as examiner and in several Master juries. Has acquired training in statistics and obtained the Felasa C certificate for supervising experiments with laboratory animals.
