Dr Huachen Zhu received her PhD in Genetics from the Sun Yat-Sen University, China. She joined The University of Hong Kong (HKU) in 2007, and is currently a tenured Associate Professor at HKU and an Adjunct Professor at Shantou University (STU). She is also the Associate Director of the State Key Laboratory of Emerging Infectious Diseases (HKU-Shenzhen Branch) and the Joint Institute of Virology (STU-HKU).
Her research field is focused on influenza and other emerging infectious diseases. Her long-term goals are to identify novel viruses that are potentially infectious for humans, and to understand the viral molecular mechanisms and host factors that lead to a higher risk of interspecies transmission, increased pathogenicity and pandemic potential in these viruses.
