Jawoo Koo holds a B.A. in Agricultural Biology from Korea University, Seoul, Korea, and a M.S. and a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Biological Engineering from University of Florida. He currently leads the Spatial Data and Analytics Theme at IFPRI. His PhD research was on the estimation of soil carbon sequestration potential in subsistence farming, funded by the USAID Soil Management CRSP program, for which he conducted extensive on-farm analysis of low-input maize-based farming systems and spatial modeling in Upper West and Volta Regions in Ghana. Jawoo's research focuses on the spatially-explicit assessment of best-bet agronomic, farm management practices supporting climate change adaptation in African smallholders’ farming systems, accounting for economic profitability and socio-economic feasibility. He developed a gridded crop modeling platform to assess both agricultural adaptation and mitigation strategies at regional scale.
