Dr. Ashley Rose Mehlenbacher is an Ontario Early Researcher Award holder and faculty member at the University of Waterloo. She is also a General Editor at Genre Across Borders, a member of the Advisory Board for the Centre for Genre Research at the University of Copenhagen, and the Second Vice-President for the Association for the Rhetoric of Science, Technology, and Medicine (ARSTM). Her research examines how science communication is changing with new—especially networked—technologies and also with different communities becoming involved in scientific research and policy-making. Mehlenbacher's research is especially concerned with public participation in scientific research (citizen science), expertise and ethos in scientific research, and expertise and expert networks. Mehlenbacher is co-editor of Emerging Genres in New Media Environments (Palgrave, 2017) and her grant-supported and award-winning research, published in over 20 peer-reviewed papers and proceedings, has been placed in high profile venues, including Technical Communication Quarterly and Communication Monographs.
