Dr. Ashikaga received his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Tokyo. His Ph.D. research was in application of cardiac electromechanics to assess the substrate for sudden cardiac death. Dr. Ashikaga joined Johns Hopkins University in 2012 as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Ashikaga is also an attending cardiac electrophysiologist at the Johns Hopkins Hospital to treat patients with complex arrhythmias. Dr. Ashikaga loves theoretical physics, big American breakfast, geopolitics, Japanese robot anime, and tea breaks, not necessarily in this order.
