Until 1989, he worked as a Researcher with the Laboratoire de Physico-Chimie des Matériaux Luminescents, Lyon, France, and in 1989 he moved to Trento as a Researcher with the National Research Council of Italy (CNR). He is currently a Senior Researcher with the Institute for Photonics and Nanotechnologies, CNR, where he is the Head of the IFN-CNR Trento unit and of the CSMFO Lab. He is co-author of more than 300 publications in international journals, of several book chapters
