He received the Diplôme d’études approfondies (1992) and the PhD (1995) in Chimie Organique from the Université de Paris-sud, Orsay. In 2015 he obtained the Habilitation degree from the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro for his research and teaching work in the field of organic chemistry, where he is associated professor since 2002 and coordinator of CQ-VR research unit since 2013. Present investigation interests are focused on the synthesis of photochromic compounds, characterization of their behavior under light exposure and application in smart devices. He has been the responsible for several national research projects including two with a lens manufacturer to produce new photochromic coatings. He has published more than 60 papers in organic chemistry journals and 3 patents.
