PhD in Communication Sciences, by the University of Minho, in 2012, through the Fellowship Programme of FCT (The Portuguese Foundation for the Science and Technology), Inês Amaral is Associate Professor at University of Coimbra and Researcher at Communication and Society Research Centre (University of Minho).
Inês Amaral has developed research on sociability in online social networks, digital literacy, technologies and active ageing, media consumption in the digital age. She is currently a member of European project Media In Action - MIA (LC-00644630; http://mediainaction.eu) and DecoDeM - (Des)Codificar Masculinidades: para uma melhor compreensão do papel dos media na construção de perceções de masculinidades em Portugal (PTDC/COM-CSS/31740/2017). She is also a member of ObCiber, MILOBS, and three COST Actions: IS1402 – Ageism from a Multi-National, Interdisciplinary Perspective; CA15122 Reducing Old-Age Social Exclusion: Collaborations in Research and Policy; COST IS1401 European Literacy Network.
Member of the IAMCR, ECREA, INSNA, and SOPCOM, she is a co-founder of the Portuguese Association of Training and Distance Learning. Inês Amaral was a member of the international projects CEDAR (Consortium on Emerging Directions in Audience Research) and EMEDUS (The European Media Literacy Education Study).
