Dr D. Pylarinos has a diploma and a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Patras, Greece. He is a Substation & Transmission Line Engineer for the Crete-Rhodes Transmission System Operation Section, Islands Network Operation Department of the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator S.A., Greece since December 2015.
He has also worked in the past as a scientific cosultant/engineer/researcher for the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (HEDNO) and for the Public Power Corporation (PPC) on various projects focusing on High Voltage Insulation and TALOS High Voltage Test Station, from April 2008 to May 2015. The latest project was POLYDIAGNO. He was also a lecturer on a contract for the Department of Electrical Engineering, Technological Educational Institute of Crete (TEIC) from October 2013 to November 2015. At November 27, 2015 he abandonded that position in order to join HEDNO as a full-time employee. In TEIC he taught: Power Electronics, Electrical Installations, Advanced Electrical Installations, Numerical Solving Methods (post graduate course), Power Circuits (post graduate course), High Voltage Installations and Grids (post graduate course) and Introduction to Power Electronics (Graduate Training Program on Photovoltaic Energy Systems). Dr D. Pylarinos has also worked for the Vocational Apprenticeship School of Heraklion Crete where he taught Electrotechnics, Electrical Automatisms & Basic Electronics, Electrical Automatisms and Control Systems, Electrical Installations and Advanced Electrical Installations from October 2008 to June 2009, and as a Computer and Information Technology Trainer participating in the HERON 2 project for the Institute for Continuing Adult Education, General Secretariat for Life Long Learning, Greek Ministry of Education, Life Long Learning & Religious Affairs from April 2011 to June 2011. He was also a freelance editor for Cactus Communications Pvt. Ltd from October 2011 to March 2012 and a Networks & Systems Engineer for the Hellenic Army General Staff from June 2012 to January 2013.
He is a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece and a member of CIGRE. He has been a reviewer for several international journals including “Electric Power Components & Systems” (Taylor & Francis), "International Journal of Electrical Power and Energy Systems” (Elsevier), International Journal of Physical Sciences” (Academic Journals), IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation” (IEEE), "IEEE Signal Processing Letters” (IEEE), "Iranian Journal of Science and Technology: Transactions of Electrical Engineering" (Springer) and "Energies” (MDPI). He is the Editor-In-Chief of the bimonthly open access international journal "Engineering, Technology & Applied Science Research" (indexed in Web of Science/Thomson Reuters Master Journal List/Emerging Sources Citation Index) since the journal's first issue in February 2011. Outside the academia/engineering industry, he has edited the folklore book "Bricktrap". He is a strong supporter of the OA movement and has signed the Cost of Knowledge protest.
