Biography
Dr Mihalis Kavaratzis is Professor of Place Marketing at the Department of Marketing, International Business and Tourism at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK.
Mihalis is considered worldwide a leading author and trainer on place branding and place marketing. He has published extensively in top academic journals and he is one of the most-cited authors in the field with more than 14,000 Google Scholar citations (October 2023) and more than 3,300 citations in Scopus.
He is the author of ‘From Place Marketing to Place Branding’ (2008) and has co-edited ‘Inclusive Place Branding’ (with Massimo Giovanardi and Maria Lichrou, 2017), ‘Rethinking Place Branding’ (with G. Warnaby and G.J. Ashworth, 2015) and ‘Towards Effective Place Brand Management’ (with G.J. Ashworth, 2010).
Mihalis is Co-Founder and Founding Board Member of the International Place Branding Association (IPBA) and has been honoured with several awards for his publications and contribution, including the Senior Fellowship of the Institute of Place Management (IPM).
He also acts as an adviser and delivers training workshops for local authorities on Place Marketing, Place Branding and Tourism Destination Marketing.
