Biography
He has more than 25 years of experience in economic research, specifically dealing with the socio-economic aspects of fisheries and their sustainability. He has conducted project research on the impacts that fishing gear and technology have on the natural growth and optimal harvest rates. He joined AZTI in 2000, where he has been working in the field of Fisheries Socio-Economics involved in the following European projects: Q5RS-2002-01291 (TECTAC), the EU FP6-2002-SSP8-CT2003-502289 (COMMIT), the EU-FP6-SSP8-CT-2003 (EFIMAS), the EU-FP6-SSP8-CT-2003 (ELME), EU-FP7 MYFISH, H2020 DISCARDLESS and the Study contract 99/024 PECOSUDE.AZTI.
From the year 2007 he is member of the Scientific, Technical and Economic Committee for Fisheries (STECF) of the European Commission and from 2022 the vice-chair of it. In 2011 he was a bureau member of the European Association of Fisheries Economists (EAFE) and in the period 2019-2021 the president of it. From the year 2016 he is editor of the ICES Journal of Marine Science.
