Biography

Freelance editor and publications consultant in biomedical sciences. Elise’s background is in science and law. She has experience and a keen interest in biomedical journal policies. She has worked as managing editor for the leading European diabetes journal, Diabetologia. Before becoming a freelance editor and publications consultant she worked 12 years in Baxter’s R&D department helping authors prepare manuscripts for submission to journals. She has been a member of the editorial board of EASE’s European Science Editor journal since 2003 and is also a member of COPE and WAME. She has written a style guide for Diabetologia and contributed the sections on non-native errors in English in Medical Writing a prescription for clarity 4E, CUP. Elise has published articles on various aspects of publications ethics and two chapters on editorial policy in the EASE editor’s handbook. For 9 years she was editor-in-chief of the European Medical Writer Association’s journal TWS/MEW.
