Biography
Dr ir Angelique Lansu is a soil scientist, who works as a senior lecturer in Earth Sciences at the Environmental Sciences research group of the Open University of the Netherlands (Heerlen, NL). Her research activities are both on the assessment of terrestrial socio-ecological processes in a water-energy-food nexus approach and on competence-based learning for sustainable development and online learning environments. Chair Board of Studies BSc & MSc Programmes Environmental Sciences (2018-present), Member Qualification Board on Academic Teaching (2021-present), Programme lead BSc Environmental Sciences (2013-2018).
Research interest in the water-energy food nexus is to better understand the interlinked nature of socio-ecological transition processes on their pathways to sustainable development and climate adaptation. Core focus is on soil-water impacts of socio-ecological systems like catchments. Current work is on climate adaptation and nature-based solutions: how waterprofessionals develop and use tools in pathways to adaptive water management, and how much this influences essential climate variables (soil carbon; drainage). Another scope is how the high growth rates of human activities of Sub Saharan Africa will influence the critical resource use for energy, water and land, analysing the nutrition transition with emphasis on spatial and temporal urban and rural differences.
Research interest in technology enhanced learning in sustainability is based on over 25 years of expertise in learning design, curriculum development and management of funded projects in networked learning. Her goal is to understand how learners could become competent for sustainable development in the knowledge society, with emphasis on networked learning in geo-dispersed virtual teams of students and professionals. Current work is on knowledge work and co-creation in nature based solutions (water management).
Born 1963 in Vlissingen, The Netherlands. 1988 Master of Science in tropical soil science (majors: sustainable land use change, Costa Rica and geomorphology, Colombia; minors: development economics, soil physics), Wageningen University. Since 1990, Angelique Lansu is lecturer Earth Sciences at the OUNL. 2013 PhD thesis on the merging of professional demands and academic standards (in nature based solutions for water management), under the aegis of the UNESCO chair on knowledge transfer for sustainable development, and the Chair technology enhanced learning, Open University of the Netherlands.
