Personal information

Biography

Educated at Waikato University in Hamilton, New Zealand. Working as a research scientist at the Cawthron Institute in Nelson (New Zealand) since 2013. Specialised in toxic cyanobacteria, I primarily work in the area of public health risk analysis for drinking water, food safety and contact recreation.

I also have interests in the characterisation of naturally-occurring bioactives from algae and the application of mass spectrometry for their detection, and the chemical ecology of algal toxins. I use this information to keep our waterways safe from cyanobacterial toxins and to develop effective therapeutics from NZ microalgae.
