Biography

Born in Porto Torres (Sassari), Italy, in 1954. Education in Medical School of University of Sassari and Degree in 1980. Specialization in Infectious Diseases (1983) and in Allergology and Clinical Immunology (1986), Rome, Italy.
1986-1990. Assistant Professor c/o the Service of “Monitoring of Antibiotic Therapy of AIDS” of Institute of Infectious Diseaes of 'La Sapienza' University of Rome; 1992-2005. Associated Professor of Infectious Diseases, Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine, University of Ferrara.
Since 2005: Full Professor of Infectious Diseases, University of Ferrara and since 2002, Director of the School of Specialization of Infectious Diseases, University of Ferrara.
1987-2000. Visiting Scientist, Department de Biotechnologie (Institut Pasteur, Paris, France), Department de Pathologie Exotique et Maladies Tropicales (Université “Claude Bernard”, Lione, Francia), 2001-2006. Visiting Professor, Groupe Immunité des Muqueuses et Agents Pathogenes (GIMAP), (Université “Jacques Lisfrang” Saint-Etienne, Francia), Laboratoire des Mycoplasmas (Institut Pasteur, Paris, France), Department of Biological Sciences (University of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA), Unitè de Biologie Cellulaire, Chlamydial Section (Institut Pasteur, Paris, France).
Main Research Interests: Diagnosis and Therapy of Infectious Diseases, Opportunistic infections (especially Pneumocystis carinii and Toxoplasma gondii) in HIV/AIDS, Parasitic diseases (toxoplasmosis, Hydatidosis), Chlamydial and Mycoplasma human infections, HPV and other genital infections, SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19.

He has published more than 350 scientific works in the field of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology.

Professor Contini is teacher of Infectious and Tropical Diseases in degree courses in Medicine, Dentistry and in numerous schools of specialization including those of Infectious and Tropical Diseases, Hygiene and Preventive Medicine, Dermatology, Oncology, Clinical Pathology, Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology. He also teaches in the Optional Course of "Infectious Tropical and Emerging Diseases in the Normal and Compromised Host" and in the Elective Course of Medicine Graduation: "Abdominal Compliance Outside Europe and North America", MAASTRICHT (2.6).
He is Member of Academy of Sciences, Ferrara, Italy
He taught in the PhD program in Molecular Medicine and Pharmacology (2012-2022).
He has been Member of the Ethics Committee of the Province of Ferrara; Deputy Director of the Medical Department of 'University Hospital, Arcispedale Sant'Anna di Ferrara.
