I am a Research Fellow at the Africa Research and Engagement Centre (AfREC), University of Western Australia, and a leading expert on Australia's engagement with Africa. My work is interdisciplinary, and falls broadly within International Relations and Foreign Policy Analysis. My PhD at the Australian National University examined Australian foreign policy, and the country's engagement with African states and issues. I have written a book on Australia and Africa, academic articles and media commentary on the topic, and have made submissions to the Australian Parliament on various facets of the country's engagement with African states. I also research comparative foreign policy in two-party political systems, and statehood, insurgency, and terrorism in the Somalia and Somaliland.
