Biography
Andrey Felipe Sgorla is a social scientist specialising in business anthropology and economic sociology. Currently, a postdoctoral research fellow at the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, Italy, affiliated with the National Biodiversity Future Centre. Her research focuses on three activities: 1) Mapping the Italian bioindustry and its impacts on biodiversity and the bioeconomy. 2) Understanding and exploring circular bioeconomy practices in craft beer production for sustainability and the local economy. 3) To analyze how future expectations about the bioeconomy in Europe, especially in Italy, influence EU policy decisions and projects.
With a Bachelor's degree in Sociology (2005), a Master's degree in Social Sciences (2015), a PhD in Social Sciences (Brazil), and a second PhD in Learning and Innovation (Italy), his research delves into the formation and development of the craft beer market in Brazil, Italy, Portugal, and Spain within the context of the revival and appreciation of the artisanal economy. His research is primarily ethnographic, employing an interdisciplinary approach encompassing sociology, anthropology, economics, geography, and education. He examines various aspects, including establishing new craft markets, entrepreneurship, artisanal economics, pleasure at work, meaningful work, handcrafted careers, learning through practice, sustainability, beer tourism, urban regeneration, place, local development, and digital narratives.
His doctoral journey included periods as a visiting researcher at foreign universities, publication of articles and book chapters, participation in international conferences, and interdisciplinary research. He conducted international research stays at esteemed institutions such as the Institute of Social Sciences at the University of Lisbon (Portugal). He conducted a research visit within the Sociology PhD program at the Federal University of Pelotas (Brazil), where he delivered a mini-course on Exploring Creative Methodologies in the Social Sciences and taught the course "Re-signifying the Economy: production, consumption, and Local Markets." He also worked as a visiting researcher at the College of Business, Technology And Engineering, Sheffield Hallam University (UK), and the PhD program in Law, Economics, and Business at the University of Vic (Spain).
His diverse career includes academic experience, where he collaborated with research groups in Brazil, Spain, England, Italy, and Portugal. He has also taught sociology and anthropology and has been a business manager in the gas industry.
