Francisco P. Peixoto is a graduate of biochemistry, from the University of Coimbra, Coimbra, Portugal, in 1992. He received his M.S. degree in biotechnology from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Technical University of Lisbon, Lisbon, Portugal in 1994, and received his Ph.D. degree in 2002, from the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, Vila Real, Portugal. The Habilitation degree was awarded in 2010, from the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro for his research and teaching work in the field of oxidative stress, mitochondrial bioenergetics and toxicology. Present investigation interests are toxicological and health properties of nutraceutical and exercise, as an adjunct to a classical therapeutic approach, using mitochondria as the focus of the study. Changes in cellular functionality and antioxidant system in response to environmental toxicants. Biological and antioxidant activities of natural and new synthetic compounds.
