Biography
Joaquim Carneiro holds a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto (FEUP), Portugal, and holds a master's degree and a degree in physics-chemistry from University of Minho (UMinho), Portugal. Carneiro served as the Head of Functional Coatings Group in the Physics Centre at UMinho were develops his research activity in the field of nanotechnology, surface engineering, nanostructured materials, functional coatings, photocatalytic materials, industrial anodizing processes and novel materials applied to civil construction. Since January 2015, Carneiro is the Head of the Department for Research Policy and Post-graduation at ISPTEC/SONANGOL National Fuel Society of Angola, Luanda/Angola. Since May 2013, he is also Visitor Professor at the Jiangsu University of Science and Technology, China. He also served as scientific advisor to the Angolan Vice Minister of Petroleum in the area of new materials applied to the oil industry. He was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Joic Construction S.A., Complementary Grouping of Companies, headquartered in Paris, France (2010).
Carneiro has authored more than 100 scientific works (more than 80 peer-reviewed articles in idexed Journals), 1 book, 8 book chapters, and 1 patent. He is member of the editorial board of “International Journal of Photoenergy”, “Coatings”, “Current Smart Materials” and “Solids” and served as Academic-editor of several Special Issues in international journals. He participated and leaded National and European R&D projects and co-organised several scientific and technical committees of national and international conferences in the field of nanotechnology, nanomaterials, thin films and novel materials applied to civil construction. On a regular basis, he is invited to serve as an Expert Evaluator for the Eureka Project (European Commission) and for the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). Concerning SME Innovation promotion Carneiro was the scientific mentor of one high-tech based spin-off proposal and founder of 2 technological SME’s. Carneiro holds 1 international award (Janus Award from the Institute of Advanced Studies/IEA-USP, Brazil) and 1 national innovation award (Magconcept Award from IAPMEI).
