Biography

Dr. Lucia Ardovini is a Lecturer in International Relations (IR Theory) in the Department of Politics, Philosophy and Religion at Lancaster University. She is an Associate Fellow at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs, the Foreign Policy Institute, and the SEPAD Project.

Her research focuses on the intersection of social movements, transnational activism and ideology. Through the study of social movements such as the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, she investigates the role that identity, religion, ideology and forced displacement play in bringing about social and political change. She also focuses on identity politics, looking at how collective identities are challenged by the emergence of individual agency in social movements that are undergoing internal and external transformations.

Her research interests include political Islam, state-society relations, social movements and transnational activism.
