Biography

Ivan Jirka received his „candidatus scientiarum“ (CSc, i.e. PhD equivalent) in J. Heyrovský Institute of Physical Chemistry, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. His doctoral study dealt with characterization of copper clusters on carbon by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. After political liberation in Czechoslovakia he worked as a post-doctoral research fellow in ETH – Zuerich in Switzerland (professor R. Prins) and at Lehigh University in USA (professor K. Klier). His investigation is focused in materials science (catalytical systems, biomaterials, zeolites)
