Biography

Education 1988 - Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano; 1997 – Doctoral Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Kyushu University (Fukuoka, Japan) with a dissertation entitled “Behaviour of short fatigue cracks and defect tolerant fatigue design” (tutor Prof. Y. Murakami). Academic career November 1990: Researcher at Department of Mechanical Engineering of Politecnico di Milano; November 1998: Associate Professor at Department of Mechanical Engineering of Politecnico di Milano; Since December 2002: Full Professor at Department of Mechanical Engineering of Politecnico di Milano; 2012-2016: Elected member of the Academic Senate Scientific roles 2004-2012, Deputy Director of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Politecnico di Milano. 2010-2014, Vice-President ESIS (European Structural Integrity Society) 2010-, Chairman of ESIS TC24 Research fields The scientific activity has addressed different topics: i) stress analysis in mechanical components; ii) mechanical and fatigue behaviour of materials and mechanical components; iii) techniques for the structural reliability under service loads; iv) durability and structural integrity of railway components.
