Biography
Inês Lima Rodrigues (Lisbon, 1977). Architect and researcher. She has a degree in Interior Architecture and Architecture from the Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (2002), a Master's in Contemporary Housing and Theory and Practice of the Project in Architecture (2007) and a PhD in Architectural Projects (2014), both from ESTAB Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. In the academic field, she has relevant research on colonial and postcolonial housing in Africa and Asia, with post-graduate studies and a doctoral thesis on Portuguese-influenced modern collective housing (ESTAB-UPC), with merit recognized as "Premi Extraordinari Doctorat 2013-14. She began the research activity in the group FORM (2007-2013), which is directly related to the "Modern Form" research branch of the Master's and Doctoral Program of the Department of Architectural Projects, ESTAB-UPC. She participated in several funded R&D projects that allowed in-depth research on modern architecture in South America, promoting its dissemination through books and exhibitions. She started teaching at ARCA-Escola Universitária Artes Coimbra as an Assistant Professor of Architectural Projects and the History of Contemporary Architecture. She is currently a Researcher of Dinâmia'Cet-IUL, developing postdoctoral research on the Modern Movement in Sub-Saharan Africa. This allows a deeper understanding of Angola's modernity concerning housing, including the relationship with other urban infrastructures inherited from the colonial period. The individual researches are crossed in the scope of the collaboration in three funded ongoing R&D projects, allowing the extension to housing in Lusophone countries focusing on MCMH studies. She is co-PI in the "Middle-Class Mass Housing in Europe, Africa and Asia" research project, crossing architectural and sociological approaches on MCMH, funded by the FCT (2018-2021). She was part of the proposal team of the COST Action approved "MCMH-EU", funded by COST (2019-2023), and became a member of the management committee and core group and nominated WG1 leader: "Documenting MCMH". All projects comply with ArcGIS systematization for analyzing the resilience of housing systems (urban, architecture, social), substantiating urban growth and showing similarities and differences in Europe and beyond. The scientific community's recognition of modern housing has led to invitations as guest speakers, juries for PhD and master's theses, academic supervisions, conferences and scientific committees and has produced several publications. She is currently a researcher on the "ArchWar" and "WomArchStruggle" (funded by FCT) to consolidate and deepen colonial, postcolonial, and gender studies. As a further challenge, she was to join the curatorial team of "Arquitecturas em Português: Diálogos Emergentes" within the International Union of Architects, with broad international projection. She recently won the 5th edition of the Scientific Employment Stimulus - Individual in the category of Assistant Researcher with the proposal Beyond the Modern Housing Heritage of Portuguese Influence..., IUL-FCT (2023-29)., opening new research in the field of housing, interrelating colonial and postcolonial studies with issues of sustainability and energy. She carries out Architectural project practice as a parallel activity to research, complementing both areas' knowledge and relationship.
