Biography

Gonzalo Felipe Avaria Saavedra is an Associate Professor at the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María in Santiago, Chile. He holds a Doctor en Física from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (2008) and a Licenciado en Física from the Universidad de Concepción (2002).

His research interests include Pulsed Power and Plasma Physics, spectroscopic diagnostics, radiofrequency emission, and deep learning applications. Avaria's experience includes positions as a Researcher at the Comisión Chilena de Energía Nuclear, a Lecturer at Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, and an Adjoint Assistant Professor at Universidad Andrés Bello.

He has been a part of multiple research projects, including those funded by FONDECYT and FONDEF. These projects involve topics like:
• Magnetic field characterization using the Zeeman effect
• Neutron production in plasma focus discharges
• Synthesis of nanoparticles for energy storage
• Spectroscopic studies of plasma focus devices

Dr. Avaria has also advised several theses on topics related to plasma diagnostics and instrumentation.

In addition to his academic and research work, Dr. Avaria is involved in outreach and science communication. He has participated in news broadcasts, school talks, and the development of a short film. He also founded "Ciencia al Congreso," an initiative to provide scientific advice to policymakers.

He has presented his work at national and international conferences. He is a reviewer for scholarship programs and scientific journals. He is a member of the American Physical Society (APS), the Chilean Physical Society (SOCHIFI), and ACHIPEC.
