Biography

Birthdate: 23rd December 1986
Nationality: Portuguese

Brígida Ribeiro de Pinho completed the Integrated Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2009 at the Faculty of Pharmacy of University of Porto. During her graduation, Brígida won two prizes from University of Porto: best student award (2006) and merit scholarship (2009). Brígida concluded her PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2014 with the thesis: “Naphthoquinones and ubiquinone analogues’ biological activities: Modulation of immune and neurological systems”. After her PhD, Brígida worked as a research fellow and as a postdoctoral researcher in projects related to neurodegeneration and mitochondrial function. Currently, Brígida is a Junior Researcher at REQUIMTE (institution of investigation of the University of Porto) since 2018 and a team member of the research group MitoNeuro (mitoneuro.com). Her scientific interests have been focused in mechanisms of neurodegeneration particularly involving mitochondrial function and proteostasis in disorders such as Huntington’s and Parkinson’s diseases.
Brígida is author of several scientific articles (7 articles as first author), book chapters and conference abstracts. Brígida is also author of oral and poster communications, and she won a Poster award in the annual meeting of the European Society for Clinical Investigation in 2019. Brígida participated as team member in 5 scientific projects from competitive funding calls. Brígida co-supervised MSc dissertations and works of undergraduate students, and she is currently co-supervisor of 3 PhD students in the field of neuroscience. Brígida also participated in the organization of scientific events, in jury of academic degrees, as reviewer of scientific journals and in several activities of scientific divulgation.
