Andrzej Zarzycki is an Associate Professor at the College of Architecture and Design in the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) teaching a broad range of building information modeling, interactivity, and digital media courses. His research focuses on media-based environments with applications in gaming and mobile augmented reality as well as interactive and adaptive designs integrating embedded systems with distributed sensing (smart buildings and cities).
Andrzej is a founding Editorial Board member of Technology | Architecture + Design (TAD) journal [tadjournal.org] and the inaugural Executive Editor. TAD is the journal of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) published by Taylor & Francis focused on advancing technology-based research in architecture and design. Andrzej is a co-winner of SHIFTboston Ideas Competition 2009 and a co-founder of TUTS (Tremont Underground Theatre Space) [the-tuts.org], a design initiative focusing on innovative adaptations of infrastructure into contemporary public spaces and on the integration of digital media technologies into urban life.
Andrzej holds joint appointment with the New Jersey School of Architecture and the School of Art + Design, both at NJIT.
Previously, Andrzej has taught digital design studios and courses at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). This experience gave him an opportunity to work with a broad array of students in fields ranging from architecture, interior architecture and industrial design to digital media and computer sciences.
