Biography
Rıdvan Salih Kuzu completed his undergraduate studies in Electrical and Electronics Engineering in 2010, followed by a master's degree in System and Control Engineering in 2017, both at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul, Turkey. In 2021, he obtained his PhD degree in Applied Electronics from Roma Tre University in Rome, Italy.
His doctoral thesis was honored with the 15th European Biometrics Research Award by the European Association for Biometrics in 2021. He also received the Best Demo Award at the 9th GTTI Thematic Meeting on Multimedia Signal Processing in 2019, the Best Paper Award at the International Conference on Pattern Recognition Applications and Methods in 2022, and the Hyperview Challenge Award at the International Conference on Image Processing in 2022.
Since 2010, he has held various positions at both private companies and public research institutions, including roles as an R&D engineer, consultant, manager, and Marie-Curie research fellow. As of 2021, he has been working as a senior researcher at the Remote Sensing Technology Institute of the German Aerospace Center (DLR), concurrently serving as an AI consultant at the Helmholtz AI Cooperation Unit.
Currently, he is involved in several earth observation projects as a senior researcher and principal investigator. His specific focus in these projects includes representation learning, hyperspectral image processing, self-supervised and few-shot learning, explainable AI, and visual foundation models.
