He is a leader, and a passionate professional with over 19 years of experience at the Cape Coast Technical University, formerly Cape Coast Polytechnic in Ghana. I teach students from diverse cultural, social, and religious backgrounds with high ethical standards and integrity, excellent administrative and communication skills, and effective teaching approaches that promote teaching, learning, and research. My areas of specialisation include construction project management, project performance, health and safety, and procurement corruption. I am currently in the final year of my PhD programme in Construction Engineering and Management at VIT University in India, Tamil Nadu. I hold a Master of Philosophy in Procurement Management and a Bachelor of Science in Building Technology from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. Engr. Akomah also possesses an HND in Building Technology from the Cape Coast Polytechnic and a certificate in teaching and learning in higher education from the Technische University of Eindhoven. Engr. Akomah is a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Ghana Institution of Construction (GIOC). I served two years as the Head of the Construction Technology and Management Department from 2021 to 2023. I am currently the head of Environmental Management Technology.

I am a member of the Academic Board, an Academic Board member of the Staff Development and Scholarship Committee, and a member of the Staff Development Sub-Committee to review the internationalisation policy. In 2023, I was selected by the Academic Board to review the on-campus student engagement policy and was a member of the committee that reviewed the guidelines for writing and presenting a thesis/dissertation/long essay/project work. I have also served as a School Board member of the School of Built and Natural Environment, a departmental representative to the same, a departmental representative to the School of Engineering Board, an assistant examinations officer, the departmental liaison coordinator, the undergraduate project committee, internship monitoring committee, research coordinator, HND one coordinator and counsellor, a member, 4-year BTech curriculum development committee, and a member, 4-year BTech programme curriculum fine-tuning. I was part of the NUFFIC capacity programme launched to strengthen the Cape Coast and Sunyani polytechnics towards developing and running higher degree programmes.

Under my headship, the Department of Construction Technology and Management won its maiden grant of (Two Million, Fifty Thousand, One Hundred and Four Ghana Cedis, Fifty-Two Pesewas) GHS 2,050,104.52 from the Ghana Skills Development Fund (GSDF) with 20% counterpart funding through CTVET for Skills Development/Upgrading for building construction artisans in the Central Region, Ghana.

I ensured the Department gained accreditation for its Master of Construction Technology programme. I also sought the Academic Board’s approval to introduce a bridging course leading to a top-up degree in Building Technology to help the academic progression of graduates with Construction Technician certification.

I have researched several construction-related topical issues and participated in conferences, workshops, seminars, and international webinars. I have reviewed several papers for the following journals: Health and Safety at Work, Construction Economics and Building, Current Journal of Applied Science and Technology, Cogent Engineering Journal - Taylor and Francis, and International Research Journal of Public and Environmental Health.
