S Sarkar



I was educated in India, obtaining my BSc (1972) & MSc (1974) from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and PhD (1982) at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Bombay, where I had a staff position (1979-84). I have held visiting positions at SISSA, Trieste (1983), CERN, Geneva (1984-85), Astrophysics, Oxford (1985-86), Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Chilton (1987-88), and worked in science education for Eklavya, a NGO in Bhopal (1988-89). Since 1990 I have been at the Rudolf Peierls Centre for Thoretical Physics at Oxford - as Glasstone Research Fellow (1990-92), PPARC Advanced Fellow (1992-97), then appointed University Lecturer (1998-), Professor (2006-) and Head of the Particle Theory Group (2011-). I am also an Affiliated Professor (2018-23) at the Niels Bohr Institute, Copenhagen, where I was appointed Niels Bohr Professor (2013-18).
