Jorge S. Marques received the EE, MSc, Ph.D. degree and the Aggregation title from the Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal, in 1981, 1984, 1990 and 2002. Currently, he is a Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon, and Researcher at the Institute for Systems and Robotics.
Jorge S. Marques was Vice-President of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of Instituto Superior Técnico, Coordinator of the PhD Program in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Coordinator of the Systems, Decision and Control area at IST. He was President of the Portuguese Association for Pattern Recognition (2001-2003). He participated in several european and national projects and was principal investigator in nine of them.
He has published over 220 papers in international journals and conferences. He is the author of the book "Pattern Recognition: Statistical and Neural Methods", IST Press, 2005, 2nd ed., in Portuguese, and editor of the book "Dermoscopy Image Analysis", CRC Press, 2016. Dr. Marques was Chairman of the IAPR Conference IbPRIA 2005 and Associate Editor of the Statistics and Computing Journal, Springer.
His research interests are in statistical image analysis, shape analysis, medical image analysis and pattern recognition.
