Biography
After studies in Macromolecular chemistry at the University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest and postgraduate studies in Applied Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry in 2003, Laura Madalina Cursaru (ex-Popescu) was a PhD student in Chemistry and received her received her PhD from the University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest in 2008. Since the end of 2002, she also worked at the National Research -Development Institute for Non-ferrous and Rare Metals (IMNR). Between 2010 and 2013 she had a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Biomaterials at the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry - Romanian Academy (Iași, Romania).
Laura Madalina Cursaru is currently senior researcher (1st degree) and has relevant expertise in soft chemical synthesis of nanocrystalline powders (coprecipitation, hydrothermal); chemical synthesis of new hybrid inorganic-organic nanomaterials by in-situ reactions and functionalization; thin/thick nanocrystalline films by hydrothermal/electrochemical method, FT-IR characterisation of nanostructured materials, 3D printing of ceramic nanomaterials using robocasting technique.
Since 2003, she has been a member of the working team of more than 30 national research projects and 10 international research projects.
Her work has focused on the hydrothermal synthesis of hybrid nanostructured materials based on hydroxyapatite and different organic polymers for bone tissue engineering applications.
In 2020, she founded a spin-off based on a patent from IMNR, whose main goal is to develop new biomaterials for medical applications.
Presently, she supervises as a mentor the activity of her young colleagues and is technical responsible of a research project funded by NATIONAL RECOVERY AND RESILIENCE PLAN (PNRR) of Romania, ctr no . 760105/23.05.2023, cod 58/14.11.2022.
She is project responsible of Core programme PN23250201 (2023-2026), project title : ADVANCED FABRICATION OF POROUS CERAMIC STRUCTURES INSPIRED BY NATURE AND ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY.
