Biography

Karen is Professor of Human Geography in the School of Environment, Education and Development at The UNiversity of Manchester. Her research expertise is in developing better understanding of the relationship between transport and social outcomes with a particular emphasis on low-income and socially disadvantaged groups. She has more than twenty years of international experience as a social research in transport. She is currently working on a number of projects relating to this theme, including two social assessment projects: a road bypass in South Wales and the Lower Thames Crossing. She also leads the INTALInC Research Network (International Network for Transport and Accessibility in Low Income Communities). She is co-chair for the NECTAR Transport. Cluster 7 on Social and Health Issues.
