Biography
Eduardo Segredo made two pre-doctoral stays at the Edinburgh Napier University and the University of Edinburgh, both located in the United Kingdom, thanks to applications submitted to a competitive call aimed to participate in the program HPC-Europa2, which was funded by the European Union, and whose goal is the mobility of researchers and access to High Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructures. After achieving his Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2014 by the Universidad de La Laguna, he started to work as a Senior Research Fellow, from 2015 to 2017, at the Edinburgh Napier University, under the supervision of Professor Emma Hart. He returned to Spain in 2017, after becoming a Part-time Lecturer in the Department of Computer Engineering and Systems from the Universidad de La Laguna, which he enjoyed between 2017 and 2019. From 2019 to 2023 he was a Lecturer, and since 2023 he is an Associate Professor in the same Department.
Regarding his scientific and technological experience, which has been focused, mainly, on the areas of optimization and evolutionary computation, it should be noted that he has participated in different R&D&I projects funded in competitive calls, both at the regional level (three) and at the national level (four). He has also collaborated in agreements with entities external to the University, has participated in networks of excellence and has carried out technology transfer in the form of software tools. It is also important to remark on the publication of over 20 articles in journals indexed in Journal Citation Reports (JCR). It is worth highlighting those articles published in Evolutionary Computation (MIT Press), IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computing, Computers and Operations Research, Journal of Global Optimization and Optimization Letters. In addition to the above, he has more than 50 contributions to prestigious nationally and internationally recognized conferences, including GECCO, CEC and PPSN, as well as several book chapters. It is also important to indicate that he has contributed to the organization of different research events, among which it is worth mentioning PPSN 2016 (Edinburgh, United Kingdom), as well as different editions of a special session on Diversity Preservation Mechanisms for Population-based Metaheuristics within IEEE CEC. Regarding research management, he was the PI of a project granted by the University of La Laguna in a pre-competitive call and a project granted by the Fundación La Caixa CajaCanarias in a competitive call. Currently, he is the PI of a project granted in a competitive call by the Agencia Estatal de Investigación (AEI), Ministerio de Ciencia Innovación y Universidades, Spain. Finally, it should be mentioned that he constantly participates in different conference program committees such as GECCO, CEC and PPSN, as well as a reviewer in prestigious journals belonging to his areas of specialization, such as Evolutionary Computation (MIT Press), IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation, IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computational Intelligence, Swarm and Evolutionary Computation or European Journal of Operational Research, among others.
