Biography
Amir Atapour-Abarghouei is an Assistant Professor in Computer Science within the VIViD Research Group (Vision, Imaging and Visualisation in Durham) in the Department of Computer Science at Durham University in the UK.. He received his M.Sc. degree in 2010 and his B.Sc. degree in 2008. He completed his Ph.D. in the Department of Computer Science at Durham University (UK). After that, he joined Newcastle University as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate working on various applications of machine learning approaches within the areas of computer vision and natural language processing. Subsequently, he began working as a Lecturer in Computer Science at the School of Computing Science at Newcastle University in the UK. His research interests span across the areas of computer vision, anomaly detection and deep learning for semantic, geometric scene understanding and natural language processing. His work includes generalised high-impact GANomaly anomaly detection approach, which is now part of the Intel OpenVINO/GETI AI product line and has been mentioned in around 40 international patents as the underpinning anomaly detection approach in industrial monitoring/sensing solutions. Amir has Co-organised the highly prized CVPR-NAS workshop (2021-2024) with a strong competition element as well as workshops at IEEE BigData (BDA4CID and BDA4HM 2017-2023).
