Biography
Dr. Givago Souza holds a bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from the State University of Pará (2002), a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Pará (2004), and a Master's and PhD in Neurosciences and Cell Biology from the Federal University of Pará (2005, 2009). He has experience in the field of Physiology, with emphasis on Neurophysiology, working mainly on the following subjects: (i) Sensory and motor systems, with emphasis on visual neuroscience, spatial vision, color vision, electrophysiology and visual psychophysics. (ii) Epidemiology of exposure to mercury in Amazonian populations. (iii) Postural control. He is currently an associate professor in the discipline of Physiology at the Biological Sciences Institute of the Federal University of Pará. He is a permanent professor of postgraduate programs in Neurosciences and Cell Biology, Neurosciences and Behavior, Tropical Diseases and Health in the Amazon. He was vice-coordinator (2012-2014) and coordinator (2014-2018) of the Tropical Diseases postgraduate program of the Nucleus of Tropical Medicine of the Federal University of Pará, general secretary (2013-2016) and vice-president (2017- ) of the Brazilian Research Association, affiliated member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (2016 to 2020).
