Biography

Stephanie E. August received the BA in Slavic Languages, and the MS and PhD in Computer Science at UCLA (1972, 1986 and 1991, respectively). Dr. August is currently serving on advisory boards, reviewing and working independently on projects related to computer science, engineering education, and the future of work. Most recently she was a Visiting Professor, Engineering Education in the College of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology. Previously she served as a Program at the National Science Foundation and is a retired Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles. Her research interests include natural language understanding, analogical reasoning, interdisciplinary new media applications, and STEM education. She has authored papers on natural language processing, reasoning by analogy, and STEM education, and received two NSF DUE grants. Dr. August is a member of AAAI, ASEE, ACM, CCSC, IEEE, and the IEEE Computer Society. She enjoys working across disciplinary boundaries.
