Biography
I have more than20 years of translational research focused on adult and paediatric liver cancer. Since 2009 I am the principal investigator of Childhood Liver Oncology Group (cLOG) at IGTP.
My main research domains are:
1.- Establishment of one of the largest collection of biological samples from childhood liver cancer patients
2.- Provide a comprehensive and highly validated panel of diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for childhood patients with liver cancer from clinically-annotated patient cohorts (2 international patents)
3.- Identification of new therapeutic targets of childhood liver cancer
4.- Establishing new experimental in vivo and in vitro human tumour models (PDX and organoid cultures)
5.- Translation of childhood liver cancer findings to adulthood cancer.
Currently, I am coordinating the biological and pathological studies associated to the first international clinical trial on paediatric patients with liver cancer (PHITT) thanks to the European ChiLTERN, iPC and BT4ChildLC projects and the Spanish Association Against Cancer (Pmed4HB). By using omics studies, advanced computational machine-learning tools and mechanistic models we aim to identify therapeutic targets and new drugs for aggressive tumours.
