Biography
Dr. Mehrdad Khakbiz is a Senior Scientist in Biomedical Engineering at Rutgers University, USA. He has more than 13-year experience in biomedical research and published about 60 papers in international journals. The focus of past and present research has been on understanding the biocompatibility of biomaterials in terms of tissue compatibility and cell viability providing fundamental knowledge on the effect of biomaterials structure on cell attachment, activity of cellular grows and subsequent reaction of cells. Further activities in the past were directed synthesizing and characterization of biodegradable biomaterials for absorbable implant and stent. Moreover, some works were devoted to the development of biomimetic compatible scaffold and grafts for tissue engineering applications, particularly vascular graft. Present activities are concentrate on the development and modification of novel drug delivery carriers by bottom-up and top-down methods for brain and breast cancers. He is also editor for the Journal of Drug Design Development & Therapy (USA) and Annals of Biomedical Technology & Engineering (USA).
