Biography
Dr. Joke A. Badejo is an Assistant Professor in AI and Data Science at Northeastern University, London. She earned her Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Covenant University in 2015. She is also a Co-Investigator in the FEDGEN (Federated Genomics) Research Group of the Covenant Applied Informatics and Communication Africa Centre of Excellence (CApIC-ACE), a World Bank ACE-IMPACT Centre at Covenant University, Nigeria. Previously, she served as a Senior Lecturer and the Coordinator of the Computer Engineering Program in the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering at Covenant University.
Her research interests include machine (deep) learning, natural language processing, big data analytics, health informatics, agile software development, and cloud computing. Since 2022, she has led a 2-year project funded by Innovate UK in University of Kent applying AI to enterprise information management. Additionally, she has co-led funded initiatives from World Bank, AFD, and INRIA France to advance informatics-based genomic research in Africa, building web and mobile applications for public health informatics.
With over a decade of computing research, teaching, academic leadership, and industry engagements, she has published over 40 papers in reputable journals and conference proceedings. Dr. Badejo is a member of several professional bodies including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), and is registered with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). She is passionate about being a research scientist and is dedicated to contributing impactful and cost-effective solutions to current societal problems.
