Biography
I am Dr Somnath Mondal, an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the Pennsylvania State University, USA. My research focuses on studying viral protein and RNA interaction utilizing NMR, ITC, AUC, and various biophysical techniques. I did my B.Sc. Chemistry (Honours, 2005-2008) and M.Sc. in Physical Chemistry (2008-2010) from the University of Kalyani, WB, India. I received my PhD in Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Science, India, in 2017. My PhD thesis title is “Structural and Dynamic Studies of Protein-Nanomaterial Interactions”. Following my PhD, I did my postdoctoral research at the University College London, UK (04/2017-08/2019) where I worked on Histone Deacetylase 8 (HDAC8) enzyme, and afterwards at INSERM, France (12/2019-11/2021) where I worked on mitochondrial MutS protein (mt-MutS) and Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4B (eIF4B). Later I worked on virology as a postdoc for a year (09/2022-08/2023) at the Pennsylvania State University, USA. I am skilled in NMR, ITC, AUC, CD, Fluorescence, and all other biophysical techniques, bioassays, probing protein-ligand interactions, and various characterization methods for studying different proteins after expression and purification. I am a member of the American Chemical Society, the Biophysical Society USA, and the Protein Society USA.
