SB is Associate Professor at Leiden University. He obtained his PhD in 2005 at the University of Strasbourg in the group of Jean-Pierre Sauvage and moved to The Netherlands as a postdoc, first in the group of Gerard van Koten (Utrecht), then with Jan Reedijk (Leiden). After obtaining a NWO-Veni grant in 2008 in the Chemical Biology group of Antoinette Killian and Bert Klein Gebbink (Utrecht) he obtained (2009) a Tenure Track position in Inorganic Chemistry at Leiden University, which he completed in 2014. He obtained a Vidi grant from NWO in 2012, a Starting Grant from ERC in 2013, and was promoted Associate Professor in 2015. His expertise lies at the crossing point between inorganic chemistry, photochemistry, catalysis, and liposomes. His current research interests are light-activated anticancer metallorugs, bioinorganic chemistry, photocatalysis, and molecular switches.
