Biography
Inês Secca Ruivo (1972), Product Designer since 1995, holds a PhD in Design from the University of Aveiro (2009). Associate Professor at the University of Évora, since 2009 has held different positions at the institution, of which the following stand out: Co-founder of the Transdisciplinary Unit for Research, Development and Applied Innovation (IDEIA); Member of the General Council; Pro-rector for Culture and Institutional Promotion of Quality and Evaluation in Higher Education; President of the Assembly of the School of Arts; President of the Pedagogical Council of the School of Arts; Director of the Department of Visual Arts and Design; Director of the Master in Design; Director of the Degree in Design; and Director of the Master in Illustration.
She is an integrated member of the Center for the History of Art and Artistic Research (CHAIA) and a member of the Scientific Council of the School of Arts; she was also a member of the Scientific Council of the Institute for Research and Advanced Training, University of Évora.
Has interests in the field of Innovation applied to Biomimetic Design, Sustainability and Transdisciplinary. Production of several scientific articles, book chapters and European patents. She coordinated and participated in different research projects, namely in the scope of co-promotion with companies. Has supervised several master's and doctoral works and is a member of multiple scientific commissions in the field of Design.
In 2019, won the BfK Ideas Award, promoted by the National Innovation Agency/Portugal, in the category of New Materials and Advanced Production Technologies.
Since 2010, has been a member of the External Evaluation Committee of the Evaluation and Higher Education Accreditation (A3ES). In 2015 and 2020, she was also a member of the Evaluation Committee for Doctoral Scholarships, Doctorate in Business and Post-Doctoral Scholarships, of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and, in 2014, member of the Monitoring and Evaluation Committee of General Directorate of Arts (DGArtes).
Between 1995 and 2007, developed extensive activity in the industry through collaboration with different national and international companies, with responsibilities at the level of development of new products, Design Consulting and Design Management. In 2005, she coordinated and was Production Director of the project “SMD - Meanings of Matter in Design”, within the scope of Design for Sustainability, distinguished by the Arts Institute of the Portuguese Ministry of Culture as the best project of the year, in its category.
Between 2000 and 2001, was Director of the Department of Innovation and Development of New Products, at the company Apolo Cerâmica SA, and co-responsible for the Control of Quality Processes under the ISO 9001 certification.
