Jakub Montewka is an associate professor at Gdynia Maritime University in Poland and visiting researcher at Aalto University in Espoo, Finland.
Jakub is researching in the field of maritime traffic risk and safety. His primary interests lie in the risk assessment of maritime transportation, quantification of safety of maritime navigation, route optimization for ships in ice covered waters. Research address conventional (manned) ships as well as autonomous vessels.
Jakub also teaches the students providing them courses on risk and safety of maritime traffic and transportation system where the theoretical foundations are given along with practical examples.
Jakub is involved in international and national associations related to risk and safety. He is a member of European Safety and Reliability Association (ESRA), Polish Safety and Reliability Association (PTBiS), Polish Operational and Systems Research Society (POSRS). He is also an Associated Fellow with the Royal Institute of Navigation in London, UK. He is also holding chief mate license for sea going vessels.
