Jonathan Steed was born in London in 1969. He obtained his Ph.D. in 1993 at University College London, on coordination chemistry. Between 1993 and 1995 he was a NATO postdoctoral fellow at the Universities of Alabama and Missouri. In 1995 became a Lecturer at Kings College London. In 2004 he moved to Durham University where he is now Professor of Inorganic Chemistry. Steed is co-author of the book Supramolecular Chemistry (2000 & 2009) and has also published around 300 research papers and edited works including the 8 volume Supramolecular Chemistry from Molecules to Nanomaterials (2012). He was Associate Editor of NJC 2001-2009 and has been Associate Editor for ChemComm since 2010. He is the recipient of the Meldola Medal (1998), the VC's Award for Excellence in Postgraduate Teaching (2006), the Bob Hay Lectureship (2008) and the Corday-Morgan Prize (2010). His interests are in soft materials chemistry, gels, crystal growth, structural chemistry and pharmaceutical solid form.
